Er ist nachtaktiv, daher bekommt man ihn nur selten zu sehen. Seine Anwesenheit bemerkt daher meist nur an deutlichen Fra\u00dfsch\u00e4den, die er an K\u00fcbelpflanzen und Ziergeh\u00f6lzen im Garten, vor allem am Scheinzuypressen, Eiben und anderen Koniferen  hinterl\u00e4sst. Dieser R\u00fcsselk\u00e4fer ist flugunf\u00e4hig, aber ein sehr geschickter Kletterer. Tags\u00fcber h\u00e4lt er sich verborgen. Er hinterl\u00e4sst aber nachts deutliche, halbmondf\u00f6rmige Fra\u00dfspuren, den sogenannten Buchtenfra\u00df. Bei Eiben, Scheinzypressen und anderen Koniferen  frisst er sich ringf\u00f6rmig um die Triebe. Dieser Ringfra\u00df kann ganze Gartenhecken vernichten.<\/p>\n<p>Noch gr\u00f6\u00dfer ist aber der Schaden, der durch die Larven des Dickmaulr\u00fcsslers verursacht wird. Die gelblich-wei\u00dfen Larven schl\u00fcpfen Ende Juli \/Anfang August aus dem Boden, wo  2 bis 3 Wochen zuvor die Weibchen ihre Eipakete abgelegt haben. Diese Larven fressen die Wurzeln; dadurch werden die Leitbahnen zerst\u00f6rt und die Wasser- und Nahrungsaufnahme unterbunden, sodass die Pflanze zu welken beginnt und schlie\u00dflich abstirbt. Dazu eignet das Celaflor&#174; Sch\u00e4dlingsfrei Careo&#174; *Konzentrat. Topfkulturen kann man damit gie\u00dfen, gr\u00f6\u00dfere Pflanzenbest\u00e4nde spritzen. Bei Topfkulturen  dosiert man 60ml des Konzentrats auf 1 Liter Gie\u00dfwasser; das reicht f\u00fcr etwa 10 Liter an Bodensubstrat aus. Man wendet das Mittel am besten in den Abendstunden, wenn der K\u00e4fer aktiv wird, fressen will oder zur Eiablage in den Boden wandert. Das vollsystemische  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floristik24.de\/Celaflor-\"><b>Celaflor&#174; Sch\u00e4dlingsfrei Careo&#174;<\/b><\/a> Konzentrat wirkt auf der Basis des Wirkstoffs Acetamiprid, der nicht bienengef\u00e4hrlich ist. Neben den Larven und Asdulten des Dickmaulr\u00fcsslers lassen sich damit auch Raupen aber auch an den Pflanzen saugende Schadinsekten wie Blattl\u00e4use, Wei\u00dfe Fliegen, Thripse und Zikaden bek\u00e4mpfen.  Der   <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.floristik24.de\/Celaflor-\">Celaflor&#174; Sch\u00e4dlingsfrei Careo&#174; Spray<\/a><\/b> enth\u00e4lt zus\u00e4tzlich ein \u00d6l, womit sich auch Spinnmilben erfolgreich bek\u00e4mpfen lassen.
