zinnia Z like zinnia The Zinnia is a plant native to Mexico, which belongs to the genus of Zinnias and is often found in this country as an ornamental plant in gardens. Dozens of varieties of zinnia can be found around the globe, which differ considerably in their flower shape, allowing the creation of a versatile bouquet of flowers with just one genus of plants. Filled variants in white or red are known in this country, which sit like small balls on their stems and are so gladly selected as a supplement for flowers with an open blossom. Other types of zinnia even have an open flower with numerous, curved petals, which are considered to be particularly aesthetic and most appreciated by breeders. In recent decades, there has been increased breeding of hybrids of zinnia, which thrive in the summer months on meadows and gardens in Central Europe, yet the Zinnia remains in this country rather an exotic, which has a houseplant the best chance of survival. Even today, the crossing of various Zinnia species is being promoted, which leads to ever new flower shapes and colors and makes the plant a real challenge for professional and private flower growers.
