In the original sense of the word, head wreath refers to the natural coloration of the head parts of mammals or birds; in the vicinity of floristics, the wreath is a flower-woven wreath, which also aims to provide the same visual effect in humans. The head wreath is considered to be particularly traditional jewelry and was already laid in ancient times on the heads of soldiers, athletes or rulers. For example, at those times the head wreath was woven from laurel twigs and considered a wreath, but over the centuries this headdress was considered more bourgeois and a general ornament in times when the common people could not afford expensive jewelry. Basically, all flowers and plants that have long and solid stems are suitable for a head wreath. With these, individual flowers can be simply woven into each other, the chain of numerous flowers is finally placed on the human head. In a careful handling, a head wreath keeps its shape even if the plants used gradually die, depending on the selected flower, the dried wreath can provide an aesthetic look. In the present time, the head wreath as a traditional headdress is almost exclusively found in the rural regions and here for special festivals.
