The columbine occurs in the wild in almost all colors of the visible color spectrum and can therefore inspire flower lovers in black or even more often black-violet variants. Over the centuries, the columbine has undergone an impressive transformation in its symbolic power and has been given new meanings in culture, mysticism and healing art. The columbine has been known for many epochs as a so-called witch-herb, which, for example, became an integral part of witches' albums and was thus always provided with a mystical and mysterious character. This character has been preserved for the black columbine to this day, making this flower in the mysticism of the 21st century a special example among the black flowers. Because of its use as an aphrodisiac, columbine was not a suitable gift flower for women in earlier centuries, but today this meaning is barely noticeable. In the Christian environment, the columbine with its lowered flower head were finally regarded as the mourning flower of the Virgin Mary, the sad and melancholy character is of course especially in the black version particularly strong expression.
